Memories of Mukden

These are books on the city's history and regional culture. The books consists of eight volumes, which respectively introduce eight places of interest in Mukden. Mukden is the birthplace of Qing culture and an important Chinese cultural heritage. Books are bound by folding, materials are metal, rice paper, brocade and so on. The shape of the book is an octagonal palace lantern, which expresses the meaning that the palace lantern carries the memory of the old times and lights illuminate the history and culture. The content of the book uses digital illustration to depict the scene.

Recipes

The first edition of this food blog magazine features the favourite recipes of Karin Stöttinger from her food blog Geschmacks Momente in printed form. The playfully designed title “please, don’t stay hungry” is true to the personal way of speaking to the target group which characterises the blog. The creative recipes are presented with aesthetic photos and detailed text design. The layout serves to convey special taste experiences and the social pleasure which eating together brings.

Tadao Ando

The monograph is made in close collaboration with Tadao Ando Architect and Associates. The design is inspired by Ando's poetics. Covers of the book are based on his landmark signature – concrete with visible traces of formwork – the recorded process of genesis that becomes a shaping quality and reflects Ando’s spirit by a minimalistic and purified form. Use of tracing paper at the beginning of each chapter gives an impression of airiness and play of light and shadow, which evoke the gradual sensory adaptation provided by the design of the architect.

Reading Goethes Faust

This modular book is a typographical redesign of Goethes Faust amid the change of reading behavior in the digital age. The approach has been to visualize different reading methods in the process of time and bringing them all together in one literary work, without changing the wording or adding images, with the aim to facilitate the access to its content. Knowing that most information is retrieved in a quick way nowadays, in the form of emails or WhatsApp messages, the question arises if the change of this reading behavior might be a blessing or a curse for the mankind’s intellectual evolution.

Eseje o Niepodleglej

The essays book commissioned for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Polands independence restoration. The layout and materials are minimalistic and exclusive. The design colors refer to Polands white-red flag. The red was used in details and white was replaced by silver on the cover, which combined with the minimalist typography of the title in red gives the feel of elegance and dignity. The handwritten quotation on cover was made in a hotstamping technique with a silver foil and a blind stamping. Digitalized in 2018 font Bona Nova used in publication was made in Poland (1971).

Beyond the Blue

It is a feature of this book to introduce various looks of the sea through the distinguishing colors of each chapter. For example, the green color chip symbolizes a healthy sea forest, while the red color chip shows dark side of a sea filled with whale blood. Like this, the color chips introduced in each chapter are used to express the bright and dark side of the sea symbolically. This book was printed on soybean oil ink with low environmental pollution on 100g matte paper and thread bound to reduce bond usage.
