The design takes into consideration that the book is divided into 3 parts, each having sub-parts. Each of the 3 parts and their sub-parts are treated differently as chapter openers. The challenge was to treat each type of content differently without creating too many varied styles and treatments. The concept was to create a book that is easy to read while paying minute attention to typographic details for the narrative.

It highlights the difficulties young designers have to face when establishing themselves in the creative field, especially while starting out. It covers topics such as taste, style and individuality as well as imitation, inspiration and identity. It features extensive interviews with industry professionals about the researched topics as well as fun and engaging illustrations and infographics.

The study offers a visual interpretation of different historical periods, social collisions, times of war and peace, of economical crises and industrial progress. It also puts an accent on the everyday life, material culture, family relations, and attitudes towards child rearing, guidance, and education.
Continue readingBuilding Memories is an interactive art book documenting the histories and memories of four public buildings which have helped shape Singapore – the National Library (1960), the National Theatre (1963), the Singapore Conference Hall and Trade Union House (1965) and the National Stadium (1973). Design elements such as a replicated library card, event invitation, architectural pop-up, photographs and comic strips were combined with historical information that engages the visual and tactile senses, creating an immersive experience that encourages recollection and reliving of memories.
