Catalogue of Incunabula

Catalogue of Incunabula is a two-volume book that documents the collection of fifteenth-century prints held by the National Library of Poland. The design refers to the style of early Renaissance printing and typography. Large initials form the main visual theme, and the cover title is produced by two-color typographic printing. Blind debossing of a Renaissance grid marks the covers. The text is set in the oldstyle serif Adobe Jenson Pro. The cover paper is made of cotton and has a rough texture. The sewn binding lets the thick volumes open easily for reading.

Craft as Time Capsule

This project is the final documentation of Hsiao-Wen's thesis research on craft making as a preservation methodology in the current digital age. A Is Van Os

A is van Os is a book about the history of the Latin alphabet. The book shows the development of each letter across four periods in history. The changes are drawn with clear lines and bright colours, so each transformation is easy to follow. All original letterforms were hand carved in stone and photographed, as a reference to the first letters cut in rock. The hard cover carries a stone image finished with a gravel coating, which makes the surface tactile. The book measures 240 by 240 millimetres.

Stet

Stet is an editorial design project that proposes new forms for the printed book. The project responds to reading habits shaped by the internet, which have become non-linear while book design has remained largely unchanged. Stet includes two redesigned books, two promotional booklets, three educational booklets and a biannual publication. One book divides the content into four levels of reading with word counts and time estimates. The other book is fragmented into short sections, so reading can begin on any page. All items are printed on Mohawk paper.

The designs were developed as a kaleidoscope of forms and elements to create the right visual consistency of the brands’ ethos and a new direction of commercial bespoke fonts.
